Marina Operators Legal Liability Insurance

Marine Operators Legal Liability Insurance protects marina owners against the common legal risks they face, including the care, custody, and control of craft on land and water. Most policies are designed for private pleasure boats but you can usually add commercial vessels.

What’s covered?

This popular comprehensive third party liability policy protects a variety of shore and dockside facilities. It covers everyday legal liabilities concerning visitors, other third parties, and vessels under the marina’s care, custody and control including:

  • Repairing, altering and maintenance in dry dock
  • Storing vessels on land or water
  • Hauling out and launching vessels
  • Docking and mooring
  • Fuelling
  • Test driving vessels in the marina
Increased Value and Freight Interest Insurance

A special extension to a Hull & Machinery policy, Increased Value and Freight Interest Insurance covers ships declared a complete and total loss. It protects against a loss of income with an insured sum of about 20% of the value of the hull and machinery.

What’s covered?

Ideal when you want to insure the full value or mortgage value of a vessel, or the extra costs involved in the total loss of a ship, it covers:

  • The complete and total loss of the insured vessel as declared by a Hull & Machinery insurance policy, which isn’t covered under Loss Of Hire Insurance
Hull and Machinery – War and Strikes Insurance

Hull and Machinery insurance covers the cost of repairing loss or damage to a vessel, compensation for the loss, expenses to prevent loss, collision liability, and claim expenses. It can also include cover for war and strikes.

What’s covered?

Usually arranged separately from the ship’s Hull & Machinery insurance, this cover can be extended to include War Protection and Indemnity Risks:

  • Can include trade to Lloyd’s of London’s ‘excluded’ areas via a special agreement
  • Covers loss or damage caused by an act of war
  • Includes civil war, revolution, rebellion, riot, hijacking or detention, all usually excluded from standard Hull & Machinery cover
  • Includes loss or damage caused by strikes, labour unrest, and disturbances related to or connected with them
Marine Freight, Demurrage & Defence Insurance (Fd&D)

Marine Freight, Demurrage & Defence Insurance pays out for legal representation and advice around claims, disputes and more, including risks that don’t fall under a P&I policy or any other policy.
